Postoperative patient care is critical to the overall success of the Rapid Recovery Programme. An effective after-care programme helps patients achieve a more Rapid Recovery after joint replacement surgery.

After Care Programme

The postoperative Rapid Recovery Programme begins with a comprehensive exercise programme for the patient. As patients become more mobile, they will need to exercise their joints to promote the rapid healing. Patients are encouraged to get up and walk as quickly as possible after surgery. Rapid Recovery minimally invasive joint replacement patients typically recover quickly. Patients may be able to walk within 24 hours of their surgery. Generally, patients are able to return to driving in two to four weeks, dancing in four to six weeks and golfing in six to twelve weeks.

There are many important things to remember after surgery. Biomet, in conjunction with leading orthopaedic surgeons, has developed information designed to inform the joint replacement patient and his or her caregiver. Patients should always call their surgeon regarding any questions or concerns they may have after surgery.

Goals of the Rapid Recovery Postoperative Program:

  • Early walking.
  • Early return to activities of daily living.
  • Return to driving in two to three weeks with good leg control.
  • Return to other activities as tolerated and as early as possible.
